How to adjust the snow tire chains length

# How to Adjust the Length of Snow Tire Chains

Winter driving can be challenging, especially when roads are covered in snow and ice. Snow tire chains are a reliable solution to increase traction and ensure safer driving in harsh conditions. However, a critical aspect of using snow tire chains effectively is ensuring they fit your tires properly. This guide will walk you through the process of adjusting the length of snow tire chains to ensure a snug fit.

Understanding Snow Tire Chains

Snow tire chains are designed to wrap around the tires, providing additional grip on snowy and icy roads. They are particularly useful for vehicles traversing steep, slippery inclines or unplowed roads. However, for the chains to function correctly, they must be sized and adjusted to fit your tires perfectly.

Step 1: Check the tension
After the chain is in place, gently pull to check its tension. They should be comfortable, but not too tight. If the chains are too loose, they will slip and reduce efficiency.
Step 2: Adjust the link: If the chain is too loose or too tight, you need to adjust the chain links. Most tire chains have adjustable links that allow you to change their length.

If the tire protection chain is too long, we need to shorten the length of the tire protection chain by laying it flat. From the inside of the tire protection chain, there are usually 3-8 buckles (depending on the size of the tire protection chain model), and one set (one ring+one buckle) can be removed. According to the length of the tire protection chain, removing one buckle will shorten the chain by about 10 centimeters, and the inner side needs to be shortened according to the specific chain length;

If we find that the tire protection chain or snow chain is short, we can extend the tire protection chain. Similar to the video on shortening the tire protection chain, we can lay the chain flat and extend it from the inner buckle, adding one loop buckle (one ring+one buckle, for one set). The overall length of the chain can be extended by 10-20 centimeters;
